Life Legacy
Edwin John Richards, Sr., 92, of Wick departed this life Thursday, July 15, 2010 in Care Haven of Pleasants, Belmont, WV. Edwin was born in Doddrige County a son of the late Steven and Hattie Sheline Thomas.
Edwin served in World War II and served under General Patton. He was wounded in Germany and recovered in a hospital in France until he was sent home to the States. He earned the Purple Heart, 3 Bronze Stars on a ribbon and several other medals. He was a true American Hero. He had 80% disability but recovered enough to support his family. He worked in a glass factory in Salem, WV and a pottery factory in Newell, WV. He was a retired employee of the Harrison County Board of Education. He was a member of of the Church of Christ for over 60 years and was a member of the Burt Church of Christ, Middlebourne.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his first wife Helen Louise Davis, a daughter Edwina Mae Adams, a twin brother Edward and brothers William and Michael. One sister Lela Richards and two infant sisters.
Edwin is survived by his wife Freda Louise Thomas, Wick, WV, sister Virginia Zino, Canton, OH, daughters Helen Erelene Topolski, Lima, WV, Tanua and Lee Smith, Lexington, KY, Butch and Elaine Frederick, Harrisville, WV, sons Edwin and Yoko Richards, Jr., Korea, Timothy and April Richards, Wick, WV and step son Roger Stoneking, Lima, WV, 31 grandchildren, 28 great grandchildren and 3 great great grandchildren.
Friends will be received Saturday, 7 - 9 pm at Furbee Funeral Home, Middlebourne. The funeral service will be 2:00 pm Sunday at Salem Church of Christ, corner of Water St. And Kyle Av., Salem with Evangelist Albert Farley officiating. Interment in K of P Cemetery, Salem.Military rites by the Lewis County Honor Guard.
