Life Legacy
Ruth Eleanor LaZear Van Camp, 93, of New Martinsville, also formerly of Morgantown, Charleston, and Wheeling departed this life Monday, January 18, 2010 at her home. She was born December 25, 1916 at Kidwell, Tyler County, a daughter of the late Emery M. and Gay E. Haught LaZear.
Ruth graduated from Tyler County High School, Middlebourne in 1932. She served two years as Tyler County Circuit Clerk: completing the unexpired term of her husband. She worked at PPG Industries during WWII. Ruth was a member of the Order of Eastern Star Chapter 50, New Martinsville and the Tyler County Federation of Republican Women. She was a former member of the West Virginia State Executive Committee of the Republican Party. She was also a member of LaZears Chapel United Methodist Church, Kidwell.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband Thomas Donald Van Camp, August 16, 1996, and by three sisters; Mary Pethtal, Margaret Garmon, and Jean Wilson.
Ruth is survived by: a sister Kathryn Watkins of Prudenville, MI; two sons, James D. Van Camp and his wife Jean of New Martinsville, and Robert M. Van Camp and his wife Mary Ellen of Marietta, OH; a daughter, Mary Sue Fraser and her husband Jack of Clarksburg; ten grandchildren; Mary Van Camp (Mike) Doran, Margaret Van Camp (Jim) Pefferman, Nancy Van Camp (Jody Alan) Sweet, Donna Van Camp (Rusty) Loy, John Van Camp, Robert Fraser, Elizabeth Fraser (Ike) Skidmore, John (Melina) Fraser, Bethany Van Camp, Will Van Camp, and fifteen great grandchildren.
Friends and family will be received Wednesday 2 - 4 and 6 - 8 pm at Furbee Funeral Home, Middlebourne where services will be held 11:00 am Thursday with Pastor Lisa Fox officiating. Interment in LaZears Chapel Cemetery, Kidwell.
